This fine pair cased silver watch numbered 2678 was made around 1700 by the great Daniel Quare, inventor of the two handed watch and repeating watches, and introduced jewelling to British watch making, this watch is an example. The watch is not hallmarked which is normal for this period, it is however marked. The inner case is marked WI (William Jacques a casemaker known to make for Quare and Tompion and many more top makers) and the number 2678. The outer case marked WG (William Ginn (again known as a casemaker to Quare, Tompion ect). The fact that the inner and outer case have different makers is not unusual at this period. The watch even after over 300 years still works well, and is very original.
