Fine silver cased pocket barometer made by James Joseph Hicks of 10 Hatton Garden and later Clerkenwell, hallmarked for London 1911, numbered 9912.The casemaker ATO is Albert Thomas Oliver ,31, Wynett Street, Clerkenwell. The barometer retains its original case, and is in working order, 52mm in diameter.
The family I purchased it from told me that one of their ancestors actually took it on an Everest expedition in the 1920's but there is no proof of this.
